Weekly Photo Challenge: Solitary

“Life is for each man a solitary cell whose walls are mirrors.

LEFT BEHIND

During the celebration of Chinese New Year, people burn fake money and/or small items of insignificant value in homage to their departed loved ones.  It is believed that these gifts will then pass to their spirits in the afterlife.  I captured this woman in Hoi An, Vietnam where I was lucky to find myself during their New Year holiday.  To me, it appears that her solitude is complete, and that she has been left behind by someone very important to her. As the celebrations went on around her, she was left alone to deal with her sorrow.

  1. The way our government is printing money and the direction Obama is taking our economy, we’ll soon be burning money in homage to our dearly departed! Mom and dad will appreciate that. See you soon, your always optimistic brother.
