Weekly Photo Challenge: FORWARD / Travel Theme: BRIDGES

Although it’s rare for me to do two posts in one week (can you tell it’s a rainy week here on Kiawah??), I couldn’t resist this week’s Photo Challenge  “Forward”, and the complimentary  Travel Theme “Bridges” from Ailsa of “Where’s My Backpack”.

Bridges, which are beautifully photogenic, lead us forward to new places and carry us metaphorically between the phases of our lives.   They can be massive:

CHAIN BRIDGE, BUDAPEST

or small:

SUNSET, KIAWAH ISLAND

“The farther backward you look, the farther forward you can see.”

Winston Churchill

They can carry Bobs:

MAX 2 PERSONS, PATAGONIA

or Bobcats 🙂

CROSSING LANE, KIAWAH

“Have Faith !   Go Forward !”

Thomas Edison

Can be lit by the sun:

APASTORAL, BEND, OREGON

Or by the moon:

MOONLIT, MENDOCINO CA

In the country:

OVER THE RIVER, CHILE

Or in the city.

Bruce Jackson said “Bridges are frames for looking at the world around us.”  Wherever they are and whatever they look like, they take us to places new and old, physical and emotional, backward and forward.  It is ours to decide which way we will go.

  1. Tina, your images are always divine. Unfortunately I have had little time to spend on WP of late as Ive started post graduate study, but its always a pleasure to see your photography, it is inspiring and beautiful.
    Jen 🙂
p.s thank you for your comment.

  2. As ever Tina you show a beautiful gallery from your travels !
Lovely post you have put together for us all to enjoy .

  3. They are all awesome but the one from Mendocino was especially drawing to me. All it needs is a steam locomotive rolling across to look like a scene straight out of the 1800’s. Great stuff.

    • How fun to see my photograph through someone else’s eyes. I hadn’t thought of that but I LOVE your vision. Thanks so much for your visit and your thoughtful comment. Please come back soon 🙂

  9. Hi Tina,

The sheer diversity of the bridge photos you have put up here is so fascinating. Not only do they signify different kinds of engineering, they also radiate different periods of history.

    Loved the post.

    • Thanks so much Shakti. For both your lovely comment and your visit! I hadn’t thought of it that way but now I wish I’d included the covered bridge from New England that I was considering!

  12. T,

With all the gorgeous “away” bridge photos when it comes down to it my favorite is right here at home, Sunset at Kiawah…….of course Bob panic stricken at mid-bridge is in a category of it’s own.
    Love ,
