Weekly Photo Challenge – CHANGE / Word-A-Week – DAWN

“Change, like sunshine, can be a friend or a foe, a dawn or a dusk.”

William Arthur Ward

UNDER AFRICAN SKIES
UNDER AFRICAN SKIES

This week we’ve been challenged to choose photos that illustrate the concept of change.  For me, this ties in beautifully with Suellewellyn’s Word-A-Week challenge “dawn”.  As photographers, we learn very early to “see the light”.  Those who know me well know that I abhor early morning.  That not-withstanding, I have pulled myself out of a warm bed many times to shoot the ever-changing landscape at dawn.

PEACEFUL SUNRISE, KIAWAH
PEACEFUL SUNRISE, KIAWAH ISLAND

“Faith is the bird that feels the light when the dawn is still dark”

Rabindranath Tagore

Whether as far away as the beautiful plains of Africa, or as close by as our lovely beach on Kiawah, there is no end to the beauty of the changes related to the sun’s rise each day.  Every few minutes its influence can completely change the way the world looks.

SUN’S RAYS, SOUTH CAROLINA

“Let every dawn be to you as the beginning of life.”

John Ruskin

The rising sun can light the amazing red rocks of Sedona, Arizona, or send brilliant highlights through the Spanish mosses of South Carolina, changing everything in its path.

CLEARING CLOUDS, PATAGONIA
CLEARING CLOUDS, PATAGONIA

“The still beauty of dawn is nature’s finest balm.”

Edwin Way Teale

It can create mystery or provide clarity within otherwise everyday landscapes – always leaving the viewer enriched by its presence.  Perhaps most importantly, it wipes the slate clean and creates a new day – giving us the opportunity once again to be the best that we can be.  Morning’s sunlight challenges us to make positive changes on the inside much as it does its work on the world around us.  A wonderful gift for us all.

And on the subject of gifts, I would like to thank Tom of The Palladian Traveler  for nominating me for the HUG award, which is detailed here.  I would also like to thank Debbie of Travel with Intent, who nominated me for the Sweet-Blogging-Award, detailed on the link to her blog.  As I’ve said in the past, while I greatly appreciate the recognition of other bloggers, I am not comfortable singling out one over another for an award or recognition. Rather, I recommend perusing the Reader to look for new and interesting posts that catch your eye or peak your interest.  In addition to Tom and Debbie’s blogs, my most recent finds are Snaphappi and Color Odyssey.  Check them all out if you have a chance 🙂

    • Thanks David – for your comment and your visit! Kiawah Island is my home so I have to REALLY push myself out of bed for the sunrises here 🙂 So I especially appreciate your choosing it as a favorite.

  2. Beautiful… I remember the first sunrises I managed to capture were almost always the result of an all nighter spent at work… :/. And they were not as beautiful as this, far from it…

    • Thanks EP! Yes, I caught some working sunrises in my day–was also in the tech business w Cisco. Those were the days—NOT !! Traveling photographer is by far preferable 🙂

  3. hi Tina, thank you for sharing your heart with us through your beautiful photos … i am praying that the good Lord will someday bless Bob and me a privilege to follow in your footsteps. thank you — April

  4. The peaceful sunrise is breathtaking.

While most people collect silly stuff during their travels (like spoons, mugs or gha Hard Rock Cafe t-shirts) you collect pictures of the sun in its most majestic state from all over the world.

What are you Tina? You’re a traveler, a photographer, and a collecter. 😉

    • Thanks so much Marie – I am indeed a traveler, photographer and collector (and also have a best friend who is coincidentally my husband). You on the other hand are a photographer, daredevil and bold adventurer – lucky us!

      • And to my list I can add poor speller! It’s collectOr not collectEr. 😉

Choosing a best friend as a husband is by far the best decision ever, isn’t it?

  5. The sun does have a way of lifting us all… Thank you for that sensitive reflection and awesome photos… Appreciate your selflessly biting the bullet in the wee am to capture these photos.. A gift to us all… Linda

    • Thanks Dan! That was really an unforgettable morning. It was freezing cold (another of my least favorite things) and really cloudy. We just got lucky that the sun managed to come through strong and beautiful for about 20 minutes before disappearing for the rest of the day!

  6. ” giving us the opportunity once again to be the best that we can be”…Not only are your photos great…so are your thoughts. Thank you for sharing both. Mud

  7. Your sunrise photos are magnificent. Congratulations on the HUG award.
I like the thought of the sunrise wiping the slate clean and a new day begins. Thank you for your thoughts and photos.

  8. Such beauty! Thanks Roo….made my day.
I must know you well, I’m quite impressed with your sunrise adventures!!

  9. Tina, once again you have illumined my day with your fabulous photography, your thoughtful quotes and meaningful words. Along with the sun… you are a gift.
