Weekly Photo Challenge – Colors of the Rainbow
“Without the rain, there would be no rainbow…”
G. K. Chesterton
This week my husband and I are “somewhere over the rainbow” enjoying Fathers’ Day with family in New York City. I’ve chosen to respond to Michelle’s challenge with a favorite double rainbow shot taken several years ago on a vacation in Prince Edward Island. It’s a very fond memory of a beautiful moment shared with good friends.
For reasons I choose not to explain, for me the rainbow has also become a reminder of the power of spiritual connection. As our friends and neighbors in Charleston struggle to understand the tragedy in our backyard, may we find strength in that same spirituality. We can hope that like rain and rainbows, tragedy can beget change – and the lives lost will not have been in vain.
Warmest Fathers’ Day wishes to all of the dads out there. Here’s hoping you too are sharing the day with those you love.

Gorgeous double rainbow! And the setting, just looks so inviting.
Thanks Mark – the setting was indeed amazing. It was one of those really lucky things. We rented a home in PEI for 2 weeks with friends. I found it on the internet and had no idea what to expect as photos are often deceiving but this place was fantastic. Appreciate your visit and comment.
Such a delightful sight Tina. In these times, photographs like this one remind that the world is indeed a beautiful place. Thank you for sharing this image.
It was delightful indeed Uday, thanks. I agree it’s a reminder of nature’s beauty, especially in trying times.
That rainbow must have been quite a sight.
I am amazed by the strength and faith of the people involved in the tragedy. Not sure I would or could be that strong and forgiving as they have been.
Thanks Nora, it was indeed. And I agree with your comments on the CHS tragedy and the grace of those involved. It’s been an amazing thing to see. Appreciate your thoughts.
Do come back to PEI! Nice shot. Canadians’ thoughts are with the victims in Charleston and with the reasons behind it.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a double rainbow. It must have been a very magical moment, in fact the magic still works. 🙂 Great take on the challenge, Tina.
Glad you felt the magic Dina! It was indeed a magical moment.
A double rainbow always seems like a gift; beautiful. Thanks for the Father’s Day wishes. I felt very spoilt on Sunday with cards and beautiful words from both my children; felt like the luckiest dad in the world, as all dads should feel on Father’s Day. Warmest wishes, as always 🙂
I’m thinking you’re feeling even luckier today than you were when you wrote this message Andrew! Congratulations on your new little one!! Thanks for stopping by to comment my friend.
How right you are Tina . Thanks for your good wishes
Nice catch. As was mentioned, so often when we see such things, we don’t have a camera. However, with the advent of smart phones, that needn’t happen.
Here’s my entry: Roy G. Biv Colors a-plenty

Thanks Cris – yes one of these days I MUST upgrade to a newer version with a better camera!
What a lovely photograph, Tina. We vacationed on Prince Edward Island many years ago while the girls were still young and I still remember the amazing red sand. I’d love to go again one day.
Do come back to be PEI. It’s easier now there is a bridge from New Brunswick, but there is still a ferry to Nova Scotia. And the food is terrific now.
And the food was terrific then Bunty!! We loved PEI and hope to come back some day!
Thanks Grace – I was amazed by the sand color as well as the tons of sea glass we found. it’s a gorgeous place, I too hope to return one day.
Wow, double rainbow! This is the kind of thing that shows up when you forget your camera…lol. Nice capture Tina and nice thoughts as well.
LOL is right Andy – but this one time I foiled nature’s plan to frustrate me!!!
That is a brilliant photograph in every sense of the word. Amazing.
Thanks so much Dor – appreciate your visit and comment.
Lovely post, Tina. It is a sad time in Charleson.
Thanks Jane. Yes, a very sad time here, but the city and its people have shown themselves at their best in response to the horrors of the event. The media have done quite a job of focusing on the positive (for a change) in this time of challenge. Hopefully positive change will come about as a result of the tragedy.
Hope you had a great time, Tina. The symbolism of the rainbow for Christians is one of hope and love, so perhaps that’s why so many people find them special. As they usually come at the end of a storm, that promise of sunshine and better things to come, is a universal hope.
janet
well said Janet – hope and love seem to be the answer to most of today’s challenges, dont they?!
A promise of better things to come!
We can hope, can’t we?!
We do, everyday!
Lovely, Tina!
Many thanks Jeremy!
Wonderful photo and a wonderful sentiment. Bravo!
Many thanks Svetlana!
Wonderful shot of the double rainbow, Tina.
(so sad to read about the tragic events in Charleston, makes me realise how lucky we are in Australia since the strict gun laws came in to being some years ago. But even so, we still have the occasional domestic, gang related, or race related tragedy).
Thanks Vicki – yes it was a truly horrific event but the response has been amazing and the city has really risen to the challenge of peaceful cohesion and positive change. The gun thing here is a mess, don’t know how they’ll ever get it resolved. Sigh
Beautiful photo and tribute, Tina.
Many thanks Chuck – only time I’ve ever seen a double, hopefully not the last!
Oh my, I think I have seen three or four double rainbows in the last month in Iowa. My sister captured one this morning on her visit with us. Not that they ever lose their sense of wonder and beauty, but I guess we’ve been fortunate to witness them more often. Hope you have more opportunities to see them
A lovely shot and poignant words, it does look like a special moment.
As an earlier commenter said Maamej, proof that there is beauty in the world despite moments of ugliness. Thanks for stopping by.
Beautiful.
😊 Thanks Diane!
Great capture! This is simply phenomenal.
Thanks very much – it was an amazing sight and is a fond memory!
Twice blessed, Tina. No explanation needed. Enjoy NYC!
More than twice Lois – thanks for stopping by!!
Twice the beauty Tina . Understanding your message too .
😀Thanks Poppy – on both fronts!
Double rainbow- you really nailed it! Gorgeous
Many thanks VR – it was quite a sight to behold. How nice of it to place itself over such gorgeous scenery too!!
Perfect capture of this double rainbow! Breathtaking…
Thanks Amy – the moment itself was quite breathtaking!
I never cease to wonder at the dichotomy of our world… the spectacular beauty versus the unbelievable ugliness. Perhaps there is meaning to it all? I don’t know. I guess it goes back to your G. K. Chesterton quote…
Thanks RMW – yes, the world really is rife with dichotomy. Hopefully the beautiful outweighs the ugly most days. Appreciate your stopping by!
Double rainbows are a super fortuitous. So I’m glad it’s a special symbol for you. Brilliant photo.
Thanks very much WC – it was a really memorable moment, thank goodness I was out with the camera!
Inspirational photo accompanied. by meaningful words…
Always great to hear from you Miss Alma; thanks very much girlfriend!
So beautiful, Tina – both the photo and the words… Hugs, Laurel
Thanks so much Laurel, hugs back!
Breathtaking photo….beautiful words….THANK U Tina!!! 😘🍸
You’re the best April, thank you!
Why after all these years am I surprised when your thoughts bring tears to my eyes. Beautiful post.
One of the many reasons I love you!
Beautiful Tina! 🙂
Thank you Adrian!
I am always reminded of God’s Goodness as the rainbow reminds us of His healing and the hope that lies within. A double reminder as you caught that beautiful rainbow.
Well said Miss Linda. Healing and Hope are double results we could all use more of.
A beautiful photo,Tina, and equally beautiful thoughts. Like you, I can only hope that we find a way to combat hate crimes–not with more violence, but in peaceful, positive, life-affirming ways.
Thanks Pattie, I see great minds thought alike for this one! Thankfully, Charleston seems to have risen to the challenge of a positive response to a horrific event. Let’s hope such things become less frequent as haters learn their actions can create effects which are the opposite of their hopes.
Absolutely, Tina. I couldn’t agree more. 🙂
Beautiful photo, and a beautiful tie in with Father’s Day. Though there might be bitter times in this world, love and true beauty in the human spirit will prevail, at least that is what I believe. Double rainbow, double the beauty. Lucky shot and great capture 🙂
I agree wholeheartedly Mabel and hope you and I are both right about the inherent goodness of the human spirit. Appreciate your stopping by to comment my friend!
A double rainbow–you certainly were in the right place at the right time. I enjoyed the soft hues and vintage quality of your capture.
Thanks Sally – I did very little post processing on that one, the hues are totally true to the moment, which was glorious!
Amazing double rainbow!
Thanks Stefano – one of those really lucky moments when you’re happy to have be out with the lens!@
I love that photo of the double rainbows. The rainbow has a very special spot in my heart. It will always make me smile. xox
Of course I thought of you as I was putting this one together Pam!
