Fog – Weekly Photo Challenge Weight(less)
I’ve always loved that phrasing by Carl Sandburg. To me it conjures up an image of fog creeping in quietly on an otherwise normal day.ย Whispy, watery, weightless clouds landing softly on the world around us. That’s exactly what happened last week as my husband and I were out enjoying a beautiful sunny day here on Kiawah. Quite suddenly we were engulfed the thickest fog I’ve ever seen. I managed to capture its essence with my i-phone; proving once again the adage that “the best camera is the one you have with you”.
This week’s challenge, weight(less) made me think immediately of that fog. To see what it brought to the mind of some other bloggers, click here.
what a clever take on this challenge, Tina. fog adds such a mysterious mood….
That’s a lot of fog Tina! And I like how you’ve photographed it.
Thanks Uday – I was surprised how well the Iphone performed under the circumstances!
Excellent fog capture.
Cat people love that quote as well, when their kitty quietly saunters into a room and unbeknownst to their person.
Thanks David – yes the phrase is definitely based on fact, don’t you think?!?!
I have never heard this quote before, but I love it instantly! A perfect match, Tina. All the best, Dina & co
Thank you Dina et al. Yes, the quote is part of a pretty famous (in the US anyway) poem called FOG by Carl Sandburg. It’s short and sweet but very memorable.
An interesting image Tina! Looks like a rather lovely watercolour to me! ๐
Thanks Adrian, I thought the same!
Lovely shot and great quote! Fog is so wonderful to watch – I loved watching the fog roll in when I visited San Francisco. Great shot!
Many thanks Debora – you get lots of fog shot opportunities I’m sure!
Beautiful shot, Tina. Nice to see you embracing the iPhone for photography. Three of my favorite images for 2015 that I just posted are shot with my phone. However, I don’t always feel the need to reveal that or make excuses. ๐ LOL- as you would say. Whatever it takes to capture the moment.
Thanks Jane – not sure I’d say I’ve “embraced” it yet but working on it! It certainly came in handy that day ๐
You should start!
Like the quote and the shot Tina…good find for this week’s challenge.
Many thanks Andy – I didn’t mention we were on the 16th hole at the time. we did manage to finish the round but it was a bit tough at the end since we couldn’t see the ball at all!!
This is a beauty, Tina. I hadn’t taken much in fog until recently and I just love what it does to images.
Thanks Sherry, I agree fog adds a wonderful element to a scene.
Nice photo. It captures how disorienting a dense fog can be.
Thanks Jane – you’re right it was very disorienting. I imagine that’s how pilots feel while flying.
That is pretty thick fog. I hope you and your husband still enjoyed your day with the lack of sunshine. Fog certainly is silent, creeping up on you when you least expect it. Ghostly, but always quite a breathtaking sight ๐
Thanks Mabel. We did indeed. It crept in suddenly and crept out just as quickly!
A very appropriate quote Tina and a perfect interpretation of the theme. A lovely misty, magical photo.
Many thanks Pauline – I was surprised at how well the iphone performed under the circumstances!
IPhones have come of age in the camera stakes now.
very interesting….mysterious….great capture!!!
Thanks April!
Excellent picture and choice of words!
Many thanks for your visit and comment Sandra
I am so happy that you liked it, Tina! Thank you ๐
Fog images are among my favorite, and I, too, think of the Sandburg poem.
Mine too Lulu, thanks. I think I read the Sandburg poem in grade school and it really stuck with me!
Tina, this was a thinking-out-of-the-box response but it was just right. I’ve always loved that quote as well.
janet
Thanks Janet! Yes, something about that quote just stays with you, doesn’t it?!
Definitely weightless! Good response.
Thanks Colline – fog is just so ethereal don’t you think?
Love the quote, and great response to the challenge, Tina!
Thanks Sue – glad you enjoyed!
๐
That is a fabulous quote, I have never heard it before!
Thanks Jude – it’s actually the opening of a longer Carl Sandburg peom. One of my favorites.
Looks thick as pea soup. And I am fond of repeating that quote by Sandburg.
It was that and more Sharon! Something about fog at the beach, don’t you think?
It really was amazing fog and you captured it so well! Carl Sandburg’s wonderful quote and Shelock Hplmes mysteries come to mind with heavy fog. I’m so happy to be back in the Travels and Trifles fold!
And the fold is very happy to have you back Mary Lynn! Thanks for stopping by.
Nicely interpreted and captured.
Thanks Sally!
Holy cats T… You can make something beautiful out o’ nuttin!
I missed that fog…must have been in one myself that day…
LOL, thanks Diane. Glad you enjoyed.
Tina, this is a great pix. And I would never have thought of fog as weightless…but of course it is.
Thanks LV – this one practically hit me over the head. I guess because it was so recent it was the first thing I thought of.
The fog gives a somewhat mysterious aura.
Excellent!
Thanks Rabirius
I may have told you this, but in 7th grade we had to write a poem to read aloud to the class. Randy M. stood up and recited Sandburg’s poem — trying to pass it off as his own! The teacher nearly had a heart attack!
That is WAY too funny Barb! Loved that story, thanks for sharing.
Lovely shot Tina. Here’s to more of the same in 2016. Regards.
Thanks Micheal – the same to you!
Beautifully done for this theme, Tina!
Thank you Amy!
Nice shot.
Thanks Rupali!
My favorite quote. I always think of it paired with Van Gogh ‘s The Starry Night.
I can see that! Thanks Mare
Fog does have a way of playing with our perceptions and being ‘weightless’. Nice photo too!
Thanks Jules – appreciate your visit and comment
The fog is sneaky, isn’t it? I love that photo and quote by Sandburg. Hope next week you have some brilliant sunshine too.
Sneaky indeed – thanks Patti! We had one of those mixed weeks with rain one day and sunshine the next. But warm – as versus the forecast for the week. UGH
Stay warm…and have a great week.
