SHAPING SAND – WPC

“It is a narrow mind which cannot look at a subject from various points of view.”

George Eliot

BEACH IMPRESSION

BEACH IMPRESSION

After two weeks of ice and snow captures, I am happy to focus today’s post on some favorite beach moments from this past week. A friend and I ventured out during peak low tide toward the end of the day and were amazed at some of our findings.

LA PLAGE

LA PLAGE

“The optimist sees the donut, the pessimist sees the hole.”

Oscar Wilde

Because Ben’s Photo Challenge invites us to show “the endless variety that one thing can contain” I’ve chosen to illustrate the day’s findings with an impressionist’s brush. The first, an imprint in the sand of an aquatic plant, the second a somewhat French interpretation of the shore littered with clamshells and the birds feeding on them.

A LITTLE BIRDIE TOLD ME

A LITTLE BIRDIE TOLD ME

“A mountain still in the distance can appear as a molehill.”

Howard Fast

We marveled at the beauty around us, so different from our usual perspective mid-island. Because the tide was unusually low we were able to walk in an area that is normally underwater. The impressions left in the sand by aquatic life forms were a unique experience, as was the abundance of mollusks – both on the shore and in the shallows. There were many both closed and partially-open clams whose pink insides were a new experience for me. The birds were wasting no time making the most of the unusually plentiful feast.

SANDY STARFISH

SANDY STARFISH

“It all depends on how we look at things.”

Carl Young

A brisk walk with a good friend on a crisp, sunny day surrounded by beauty – it doesn’t get much better than that….no matter how you look at it 😊.

  1. My daughters and had a similar experience except that it was during our summer holiday and after 12 at night. We visited friends and walked back to where we stayed along the beach they looked at the creature with their mobile phones flashlights’ and i with the lens – amazing creatures not seen in the day

  2. lovely mood in all of these Tina! i am surfacing from an unplanned blogging hibernation – life has just gotten crazy busy at my end. good to see you are still at it! enjoyed these moments. thanks for sharing.

  3. Isn’t it amazing the quality of iPhone photos now?! Last vacation I did not take my “real” camera out of the bag half the time! Wonderful reminders in your post to pause and appreciate the little details of life.

  4. I’m glad you are enjoying warmer weather and making the most of it, nothing better than sharing a photowalk with a good friend 🙂 these images look much like impressionist paintings, I can tell sunshine has inspired you, Tina 🙂 wonderful scenes!!

  5. Oh Tina…wow. I have been delving into impressionistic photography of late a little. Found a fabulous FB group. But it is a bit like a rabbit hole for me, and I may never surface again. 😉 So I really loved these.

  6. gorgeous…SOOTHING shots Tina….just what I needed at this moment….has been a very tough time for us all here on kiawah this week…thank u for reminding us of our beautiful surroundings……👍

  7. Your quotes and images offered me a strong and much-needed shot of positivity this morning Tina. A dose of Mother Natures bountiful variety mixed with a bit sagely wisdom was exactly the medicine I needed today.

  8. Looks like the birds weren’t the only ones getting a treat! ☺ These pictures from your walk are beautiful, Tina, and I love the impressionist look of them.

  9. Great interpretations with your remarkable “impressionistic brush” program Tina. That iPhone 8+ takes wonderful photos. I think the Impressionists would have put their brushes down and left their studios to go out looking for the nearest Apple Store 🙂

  10. So lovely to hear it warmed up enough for you to pay a visit to the beach – all you needed was a sunny day 🙂 Love that starfish imprint on the ground…the starfish must have laid there cozily for a long time before it had to go with the water 🙂 Lovely to hear there were some food for the birds. Poor clams but yay for the birds. That’s how the food chain goes at the end of the day. Hope you have many more walks by the beach later this year, Tina. It’s only going to get warmer for you from here…and for us here in Australia, cooler lol 😀

    • Poor clams but yay for the birds indeed Mabel!!! Yes the weather’s taken a turn for the better at least temporarily. Just trying to get outside and enjoy it while it lasts!

  11. “…it doesn’t get much better than that….no matter how you look at it”
No, it doesn’t. Impressions of a beautiful walk – thank you for lending us your eyes and lens, Tina.

  12. To seethe starfish imprint, me thinks it managed to run away before it becomes a meal. Your header again is playful. I enjoy squinting my eyes to see all them clams on clear waters. Here’s to more beach time, Tina. P
