Lens-Artists Challenge #17: Just For FUN

“It’s more fun when you’re not the only one having it.”

JUST PLAIN WEIRD – NYC

This week Patti has invited us to have some fun and I’m all for that! I chose my opening image because I can only imagine the artist created it just for fun. I’m open to anyone who can venture a guess as to what it’s all about! I captured it in a small park in NYC this past weekend.

RED JACKET, BROWN PANTS

RED JACKET, BROWN PANTS

“Never ever underestimate the importance of having fun.”

Randy Pausch

Several years ago while visiting Alaska, I came across this fellow who had been caught on the wrong side of the river where he AND the bears were fishing. Needless to say, had the standoff ended the bear would definitely have had the upper hand. Fortunately he was a young juvenile and was merely curious rather than hungry 😀.

BAD SHOT

BAD SHOT

“Fun is good.”

Dr. Seuss

One day I looked out of my kitchen window and saw a bright yellow golf ball firmly lodged in a palmetto. I found myself wondering just how bad the golfer must have been, as the tree is nowhere near the route to the green. I suspect he wasn’t having as much fun as he’d have liked, at least on that hole 😀.

DOLPHINS HAVE FUN TOO

DOLPHIN HAVING FUN

“There is no fun in having nothing to do. The fun is in having lots to do and not doing it!”

Mary Little

Finally, an image I made quite some time ago. We often see dolphin swimming, feeding and even jumping in our marsh and rivers, but this one seemed to actually be dancing on his tail. In all of the many times I’ve seen them, this was the only instance in which I’d ever experienced this behavior. Clearly he was simply having fun.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s fun challenge, and a big thanks to Patti for the opportunity to smile at some fond memories!

Remember to tag your posts Lens-artists in order to appear in our reader section, and of course stay tuned for Ann-Christine’s challenge next Saturday. As for me, I’m traveling for the next several weeks but will do my best to be in touch on the upcoming challenges.

  1. So much fun, Tina! Excellent choices – and I must admit I laughed at the man with the bear…although maybe I shouldn’t. Poor guy.
Wishing you pleasant travel further on!

  2. But Tina those blue pants aren’t brown…
I once read about a “fly in” for small aeroplane enthusiasts held in South Africa that many of these pilots has had experiences with engines cutting out when it shouldn’t cut out. But is is then when adrenaline kicks in. It is conveyed that adrenaline has a color. It is brown and doesn’t smell good…

Your first quote made me think of my attempts in parenting
“It’s more fun when you’re not the only one having it.”
My youngest daughter tends to make negative but “humorous” statements about people and crack up laughing. I have told her that if only one person laughs it is not funny (but suspects she didn’t hear me or chose or to hear me).

Last night she was irritating me and I told her to go away and she looked at me in mock horror. I then responded with the remark “grappie” (joke) and she retorted: :”If only one person laughs it isn’t funny…”

  4. Great choices Tina, but that teen in front of the bear… I am sure it was not “Fun” for him… Although it was very funny for me! 😀 I know I am bad!

  5. Tina. Remember Flipper. He was always up out of the water going backwards to show off. Great catches. Always enjoy your camera’s views. Anne

  6. That first image is quite compelling. I see the symmetry – balance and imbalance, separation living in a bubble – wanting in wanting out? It’s like a puzzle – and I have fun with puzzles!

  7. Hilarious to see a courtship between the mermaid and half minimal. I’m sure it’s not fun to see a bear but now we can laugh about it. As for the golf ball, the angels must be playing golf up on the clouds. Seuss is right. This is a fun post, Tina. Oops, my cat just farted.

  8. T Bear Dick and I had a great laugh in these. Thanks. Hope you’re having wonderful time in Israel. Hope we get to see some of those shots. Missed you at Member Member. Darv
